Divorce is an Unpleasant End to a Marriage

A Divorce is a legal Dissolution of Marriage that removes both the legal responsibilities and obligations of Marriage between a married couple.

Is there a Difference between an Uncontested Divorce and a Contested Divorce?

If you and your spouse agree on all of the issues from your separation, then you will have an uncontested divorce. In essence, this means that you have agreed on everything – parenting arrangements, child support, spousal support, and how to divide your assets, debts, and pensions.

In an uncontested divorce, you will probably never have to appear in court. Your divorce will be handled behind the scenes by a court staff member and a judge.

Divorce means that you don’t agree on some or all of the issues that resulted from your separation. A divorce process begins with a divorce petition filed by one spouse and an answer filed by the other spouse. The answer indicates that the other spouse disagrees with something requested in the divorce. The petitioner is the spouse who files the divorce petition. In most cases, it is the other spouse who responds.
